Performing Arts

Performance Arts Parents are required to sign a Fine Art Class Parental Agreement Form. Failure to do so will jeopardize your student’s participation in Performance Art Classes. If you failed to sign this form during the membership process, you can find it here.

Fun with Music - Ages 6-8

*Fun with Music will only perform at Spring Performance Night (not Fall Performance Night).

Fun with Music will allow young students the opportunity to actively engage in music as they explore musical concepts, instruments, and composers. This class will be an exciting and pressure-free place for your child to develop a strong musical foundation and become knowledgeable, confident, and curious about music. Students will learn rhythm, dynamics, notes, and phrases through active participation. They will be exposed to music from different genres and composers. Budding musicians will sing, use expressive movement, develop active listening skills, play instruments, and begin reading and creating music. Practicing at home will greatly improve your child’s growing musicianship. Our hope is that your child will leave this class loving music. Our young musicians will be included in the spring performance night only if they choose to participate. Fun with Music can be taken for multiple years as activities vary from year to year.

Creative Dance - Ages 6-9

Teacher: TBD

(Students will Perform in Both Fall and Spring Performances)

Beginning with basic ballet and dance warmups and exercises, the students learn the fundamentals of movement and dance technique. After warming up, the students will learn to execute simple dance movement combinations across the floor to include slides, turns, leaps, and more.

A favorite part of this class is the different creative movement games and activities that we do. The students learn about many of the components of choreography that include how we make choices about moving through space; fast/slow, high/low, floor patterns, positive and negative space, different rhythms, et cetera, as we work together to create a dance for the fall and spring performance event.

Annual Tuition & Class Fee: $250/$45

Musical Theatre Junior - Grades 2nd-8th

HELP’s Musical Theatre classes offer every child the opportunity to experience becoming a part of a team working together to present a fully staged musical theatre production. Students will learn vocal training, acting, and staging as they learn to present a production from beginning to end. The class typically utilizes one of Musical Theatre International’s: Youth, Junior, or Kids productions or other worthy production. Due to limited class rehearsal time, students should budget time every week outside of class for practicing choreography, learning lines, and music. The 2025/2026 school year will feature a musical of the director and HELP leadership’s choosing – TBD. Families enrolling in these classes will be emailed the show title as soon as it has been determined. Performance dates for 2026: April 17 & 18 at the Anderson Center. In addition to performances, students will need to be available for extra technical and dress rehearsals throughout the week of April 14-17, 2026.

Show Choir - Grades 4th-8th or 8th-12th

Teacher: Darcie D'Ascenzo

Show Choir is a lively singing and dancing class that uses Broadway and classic songs to develop musicianship, proper use of breath support, phrasing, interpretation, stage presence and other musical and performance disciplines through teamwork. Students should plan to practice their pieces at home several times each week to be prepared for performance night at the end of the semester. Show Choir is appropriate for all abilities and is a fantastic way to step into the art of music. There is no audition required for this class and all are welcome!

Sign Language Worship - Grades 4th-8th

Teacher: Makayla Springer

his class is an introduction to signing for basic communication with the Deaf. Signing to worship music is not only fun, but it is a beautiful expression of our love to our Savior. Over the course of the year, students will learn two songs for Winter and Spring performance nights. First semester students will learn a classic Christmas song and Second semester students will learn a classic hymn. Come have fun learning to sign to worship music. This is a class that can be taken year after year as students are always learning to sign to a new worship song.

Creative Dance I - Grades 1st-4th

Teacher: Jacquie Palazzolo

In this class, we will have a lot of fun! Beginning with basic dance warm ups and exercises, the students will begin to learn the fundamentals of movement and dance technique. Each week we will enjoy different creative movement games and activities. The children will also learn about many of the components of choreography, such as how we make choices about moving through space, fast/slow, high/low, floor patterns, positive and negative space, different rhythms, etc., as we work together to create our own dances. There will be leaping, turning, balancing, moving together as a group and moving all alone...the possibilities are endless! Students will work on techniquest throughout the year and will perform a dance for the spring performance event.

Annual Tuition and Class Fee: $270/$35

 

Creative Dance II- Grades 5th-7th

This class is geared for a slightly older student and is a very rewarding and challenging experience. YOU DO NOT NEED TO TAKE CREATIVE DANCE I as a prerequisite to this class! Beginning with basic ballet and dance warm ups and exercises, the students learn the fundamentals of movement and dance technique. After warming up, the students will learn to execute simple dance movement combinations across the floor to include slides, turns, leaps, and more.

Acapella - Grades 7th-12th

Acapella is a vocal ensemble experience that prepares students for a lifetime of singing. In addition to learning the repertoire, students will learn vocal technique and music theory. Acapella willl perform 2-3 selections for both the Fall and Spring Performance Nights.

Teen Choir - Grades 7th-12th

Teen choir is a choral ensemble for teens ages 12-18 that provides a fun environment for each singer to develop his/her God-given instrument, the voice, and to sharpen the necessary skills to belong to a musical ensemble: muscianship, diction, introduction to solfeggio, and music literacy are all components of the Teen Choir experience. Music will be chosen based upon th eexperience and number of singers who participate. The course will culminate in performances at both the Fall and Spring Performance Nights.

Poetry, Plays and Oracy - Grades 4th-8th (fluent readers)

Teachers:

  1. is the ability to speak and to understand spoken language. In this workshop-style class, students will develop four aspects of verbal communication: cognitive, linguistic, physical, and emotive strands. Students will explore techniques such as vocal delivery, characterization, and pacing to develop experience and confidence. A selection of poems and plays will form the basis of class discussion and practice, with Shakespeare being a major component. Plays may include: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Twelfth Night, and Macbeth.

Basic Music Theory- Grades 7th-12th

Teacher: Dorie Ivan

During this class students will learn basic note names and values, time signatures, staff notation, clefs, rhythm and meter, key signatures, major and minor scales, chords, and beyond. The students will get a working knowledge of the piano keyboard by learning half and whole steps, and by building intervals, scales, and chords on piano practice cards. The class will be utilizing worksheets from Musictheory.com, exercises from musictheory.net and piano practice cards.

This is a great class for voice students, instrumentalists, and music theatre students, whether or not you intend to pursue music as a career. It will also be a great stepping stone for college music theory.

Gateway to Music - Grades 3rd-6th

Teacher: Stephanie Mackris

This class is designed to teach students to read music through games, songs, and learning to perform on the recorder. The ability to read music will open the door for students to explore other instruments and enjoy a lifetime musical experience. The students will perform selections on the recorder for both the Fall and Spring Performances Nights.

Group Voice - Grades 4th-12th

Teacher:

Group Voice is a group singing lesson that provides a learning situation in which each person in the group is constantly involved, whether in performance, aural and visual analysis, or constructive criticism of self and peers. Each member feels a responsibility to others for adequate preparation and all have a real sense of personal involvement. Students will need to practice at home for 20 minutes- 3 times a week. They will perform in performance night which is at the end of the semester.
